Making Progress – Study Programmes

Buddhism teaches that to find lasting happiness and meaning in our lives we need to follow a spiritual path.

Sometimes it feels difficult to make progress in a spiritual path. We may have received many different teachings from many different teachers, but it feels superficial and we cannot apply Dharma to solve our daily problems

To enable us to overcome these difficulties and make progress on the spiritual path Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has designed three special spiritual programmes – General Programme, Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme. These programmes allow for the systematic study and practice of Kadampa Buddhism and are especially suited to the modern world. They make it possible for anyone even in a busy modern life to practise and make progress on an authentic spiritual path.

Where to start?

You can begin by attending the evening or daytime meditation classes or courses and retreats that make up the General Programme. You can supplement the classes with recommended Dharma books until you are familiar with the basic teachings and meditations of Buddhism and feel you want to go deeper.

How to Progress

For those who wish to gain a deeper experience of Dharma they can progress by studying on Foundation Programme (FP).  FP  is a weekly commitment to compete the study of a particular book. Through this we can gain authentic experience of the Dharma while still maintaining our contemporary lifestyle. By studying on this program we shall gain great confidence in meditation – from basic techniques for overcoming our everyday problems to practices leading to unsurpassed happiness and permanent inner peace.
